Bad Hofgastein is a market town in the district of St. Johann im Pongau , in the province of Salzburg in Austria . It is a spa, summer and winter sports community. The municipality is located in the Gasteinertal in Pongau in the Salzburger Land. Until the end of 2002, the municipality belonged to the judicial district Gastein, since 2003 it is part of the judicial district Sankt Johann im Pongau .
